The Center for Justice Innovation (formerly the Center for Court Innovation) is providing strategic planning support for up to four new jurisdictions through the BJA’s Sixth Amendment Initiative, Justice for All.
This training and technical assistance is available is to courts (judges, administrators, or clerks) for on-demand strategic planning around discrete Sixth Amendment challenges. Areas of focus may include:
Collaboration with system stakeholders and the community is encouraged. The application is the first step in the process. Eligible sites will be invited to a telephone interview with the Center’s team. Up to four sites will be selected for on-demand strategic planning assistance. There is no-cost to the site.
Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis.

What is BJA’s Justice for All initiative?
This program assists state, local, and tribal jurisdictions in reducing crime and improving the functioning of the criminal justice system, specifically through assistance for the protection of constitutional rights under the Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
What is being offered for TTA under this solicitation?
This application is for strategic planning around discrete challenges. Areas of focus may include virtual court appearances, case backlogs, jury composition and selection, and access to counsel, and any other challenges related to the protections guaranteed by the Sixth Amendment. Specific requests for action research around such areas are also an option for applicants, and expert assistance is available to sites interested in building capacity related to cost-related research (e.g., specific approaches to cost-benefit analysis, data required to identify returns on investment, etc.).

Who is eligible to receive TTA?
Courts are eligible. Applications should come from the courts, including judges, administrators, and other court system actors. Collaboration with system stakeholders and community is encouraged.
When is the application due?

Is my court guaranteed to receive strategic planning support if we apply?
No, up to four sites will be selected. If your court is not selected as a TTA recipient, there will be other opportunities to receive limited TTA. Information on that process is forthcoming.
What can I do if my application is not selected?
Please consider applying for limited TTA when those opportunities become available later in the year.
